The HCU students arrested from campus were allegedly abused and beaten by police, taken to five different police stations, made to wait a long time at Nacharam, near the Metropolitan Magistrate’s house, and finally taken to Cherlapally Jail around Wednesday midnight — more than 30 hours after their arrest.
A group of four arrested students have given these details to Prasheel Anand Banpur, a PhD scholar who met them in jail along with several others on Saturday.
In a statement, Banpur said they met Dontha Prashanth, Manne Krishank, Goutham Uyyala and Mudavath Venkatesh in jail and were told that following their arrest, they were taken in two groups to Gachibowli police station. After their particulars were taken there, the group was transported in two trucks to Kukkatpally police station and held for a while, then taken to Miyapur police station, and on to Narsingi police station, where they spent the night.
On Wednesday afternoon, they were transported to Moinabad police station, then to Nacharam, and finally brought to Cherlapally Jail past midnight. Besides alleging that police beat them during transportation, they also accused them of taking away their phones and not providing information regarding their arrest or where they were being taken. As per Banpur’s statement, the FIR and cases were allegedly filed without knowledge of the arrested students.
