An RJD worker and Navgachhia ward councillor was shot dead early on Saturday morning by unidentified assailants. This is the second killing of a political leader in the last one week since the murder of a BJP leader in Danapur, Patna.
Police said the incident took place at around 7 am when Vinod Yadav, ward councillor of Navgachhia (Bhagalpur) Nagar Panchayat and an active RJD worker, was shot dead near Naya Tola area by armed assailants who had been riding three bikes. Locals told the police that the three assailants fled the spot firing in the air.
Hundreds of people gathered soon in protest of the killing of the RJD worker and blocked traffic on the roads.
A senior Navgachhia police officer said: “Prima facie, personal enmity looks to be reason but we have to first identify the killers. We are first tackking law and order situation.”
RJD spokesperson Pragmati Mehta condemed the killing saying Yadav had been an active party worker.
