BSP chief Mayawati has demanded the sacking of Assam Governor P B Acharya for his controversial statement on Muslims, which, she said was “unconstitutional” and “irresponsible”.

“It is not appropriate for people holding constitutional posts to make such undignified statements, going against the Constitution. But unfortunately, the BJP government at the Centre has appointed many such people, affiliated to RSS and with a polluted mindset, to constitutional posts,” Mayawati said in a statement.

Mayawati said the peace-loving majority and intellectuals in India are not worried about a handful of intolerant people becoming fearless, but about the fact that the NDA government is providing shelter to them. She said this is apparent by the list of people given security by the Centre and by BJP-ruled states. The BSP chief said making undignified and hatred-filled statements is a “new fatal disease” and it is natural that there will be a debate on it.
