Security forces on Tuesday gunned down four youth – all “hardcore terrorists” belonging to the NSCN(K) and ULFA – on the inter-state border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The terrorists had come to village Dillipathar under Bordumsa police station in Tinsukia district for extortion when a joint team of the Assam Police and Army laid an ambush to apprehend them late Monday night, Guwahati-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneet Newton said.
“When contact was established with the terrorists in the early hours of Tuesday, they opened fire on the joint team of Army and Police and got killed in the retaliatory firing,” Lt Col Newton informed.
While three of them belonged to the Khaplang faction of the NSCN, the fourth was a cadre of the anti-talk faction of ULFA headed by Paresh Barua, he said. One AK56 and two pistols along with a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the killed terrorists. (ends)
