Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday expelled Rampal Yadav, party MLA from Biswan in Sitapur district, on charges of indiscipline, illegal activities, irregularities and maligning the image of Samajwadi Party.

This comes on a day when Yadav and eight of his associates were sent to jail by a local court after he was arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting Lucknow Development Authority officials, who were bulldozing his “illegal” under-construction commercial complex in Jiamau area. Yadav was produced before the court of an additional chief judicial magistrate, who rejected his bail plea and sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
