Punjab: Two killed after being run over by truck in Kapurthala

The truck driver Harbans Singh, who had fled from the spot after the accident, was nabbed by the police a few hours after the accident.

Two persons were killed on the spot and another seriously injured when a truck ran over them while they were sleeping outside their roadside huts (jhuggies) in Kapurthala on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Pintu (30) and Sheesham (17). The injured has been identified as Chaursi Devi (50), mother of deceased Pintu.

The truck driver Harbans Singh, who had fled from the spot after the accident, was nabbed by the police a few hours after the accident.

Chaursi Devi, who sustained multiple injuries, was rushed to the hospital.

The incident took place between 5am and 5.30am near the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) on Kapurthala Sultanpur Lodhi road. Several huts are located outside the RCF’s gate number three.

SSP Kapurthala Rajinder Singh said that the truck filled with pebbles was coming from Pathankot. An eyewitness said the truck driver lost control and ploughed through the people sleeping on the roadside.

Several people protested on the accident site and blocked traffic, alleging that the police reached late.
