V P Singh Badnore, 68, has been appointed Punjab governor, the posting coming just after his term as Rajya Sabha MP ended last month. PRS Legislative Research records his attendance at 91 per cent during that term. Twice an MP and four times a Rajasthan MLA, the BJP leader was minister for irrigation in Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s cabinet.

He has a keen interest in environmental and matters. He was chairperson of the Special Task Force to rehabilitate tigers in Sariska from 2005 to 2009 and later served as a member on the Rajasthan Board for the preservation of Wildlife and on the steering committee of Project Tiger. Badnore is a graduate in business management from Government College, Ajmer.
