CHORUS FOR the removal of Aam Aadmi Party’s state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur became shriller today with 21-odd senior party leaders writing to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanding his ouster on charges of corruption.
Chhotepur, on the other hand, spent the day preparing for a show of strength and to give his side of story to his volunteers. After his show of strength, he would be addressing the media in Chandigarh tomorrow.
Chhotepur is in trouble following a sting operation on him by an AAP volunteer in which the state convener was caught on the camera accepting money. The party is mulling his removal.
As a precursor to his likely removal, the 21 leaders led by MPs Bhagwant Mann and Prof Sadhu Singh, shot off a letter to Kejriwal stating he should not be tolerated in the party.
In their letter, the leaders said, “ We urge to sack present convenor Chhotepur without any delay and to replace him with an honest person to take the movement forward.”
They have written : “AAP was born out of an ‘andolan’ against corruption. Corruption is the root cause of all problems in India and AAP is the only hope for crores of people of India. Millions of Indians associated themselves with AAP, made huge personal sacrifices; worked day and night to fuel this revolution and transform AAP into a formidable political force of India, which has set fears in minds of all corrupt political parties.”
Adding: “Even in Punjab, all citizens of state truly believe AAP is the right option to root out corrupt SAD and Congress, the same is also reflected in every independent and objective survey. All of us as volunteers put our blood and sweat since formation of the party to work towards corruption free society; nevertheless, we are highly upset and disappointed to see media reports in regards to acceptance of bribe
sby Chhotepur. For past few weeks there had been whispers across Punjab about his conduct and practices but his confession in an interview with a newspaper and also to some party leaders demands an immediate action by Political Affairs Committee of Party.”
