THE FIRST list of nominees declared by AAP Thursday ended the possibility of former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and SAD MLA from Amritsar (South) constituency Inderbir Singh Bolaria joining the AAP. The party has announced Amritsar native Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar as its candidate from the constituency.
Bolaria, who was recently suspended by the Shiromani Akali Dal, had had given hints he was open to joining Congress and AAP.
“Yes, I was open to joining AAP but never approached the party for ticket. It is for sure that I will contest election from Amritsar (South) and will soon decide on joining some party or contest as Independent,” he said
“The early list of candidates by AAP shows the party has no confidence on its ideology and that the 2017 elections will be candidate-centric. It is a good thing for people that candidates are in focus rather than the parties,” he said.
Bolaria was suspended from the party after he had developed differences with SAD president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal over various issues, including the proposal of Solid Waste Management plant in his constituency. Bolaria was against setting up of the plant.
Bolaria had praised both PPCC chief Captain Amarinder Singh and Arvind Kejriwal after his suspension from SAD during last month.
“I never asked AAP or any other party for ticket. I have remained pro-people despite being in power. I fight with the party leadership due to their anti-people policies. It is the right of AAP to declare its candidates,” said Bolaria.
Bolaria refused to comment if Congress remained his only option now.
Owner of Nijjar Scan and Diagnostic centre, AAP candidate Inderbir Singh Nijjar is MD Radiology. He has worked for AAP since its launch in the state.
