THE BHARATIYA Janata Party (BJP) has stopped inviting party MLA from Amritsar (East) constituency Navjot Kaur Sidhu to party functions even as the latter claimed she had been skipping them on her own and that she would resign from the party soon.

Recently, the BJP district leadership inaugurated development projects at Valla village in Sidhu’s constituency in her absence.

She is also seen not in the meetings of the BJP unit being held to revamp the party structure in her constituency.

“We have boycotted her. It seems she doesn’t know what to do. She is politically immature and would give contradictory statements to embarrass herself and the party. We decided to do so after her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, floated a new political forum earlier this month,” said Rajesh Kumar Honey, BJP district president, while talking to The Indian Express.

Reacting to the boycott call, Navjot Kaur Sidhu said, “Who are they to not invite me? I have stopped going to party functions on my own. I have my own reasons to not resign from the party. But it is sure I will resign soon.”

She declined to give any time period for the same. Her husband has already resigned from BJP.

The last official function of the BJP that Navjot Kaur Sidhu attended after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from Rajya Sabha on July 18 was the party’s ‘Tiranga Yatra’.

“I had attended that as it had a national cause,” she said.

Rajesh Kumar said no one in the constituency will follow Navjot Kaur when she will quit the party. “We have four mandal presidents in Amritsar (East) constituency. They were appointed around six months ago. No party worker or leader in the constituency will go with Navjot Kaur Sidhu. Besides, she was given ticket as she is the wife of Navjot Singh Sidhu, who got ticket for being a cricketer,” he said.

On why the party has still not acted against the MLA even as she had often attacked the party, the BJP district president said: “This decision has to be taken at the high command level. We have been doing what can be done at the district level. We are responsible to give a new leadership to the party from Amritsar (East). New teams have been formed at booth level and we are sure to win this seat for the party again.”

Rajesh Kumar said they were also looking at the ongoing development projects in Amritsar (East) constituency. “Our government is giving funds and the party would inaugurate these projects. Navjot Kaur Sidhu cannot take credit for same,” he said.
