The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) held a road show in Pune at Hotel Conrad regarding the ‘Visit Maldives 2016’ initiative run by the Maldives government. The economy of Maldives, a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean, is based on tourism, and the country is promoting itself on the occasion of completion of 50 years of independence this year.
The event was organised to attract travel companies in India and inform them about the facilities available in various hotels in Maldives. Fathimath Raheel, Deputy Director, MMPRC, said, “India is one of the top five countries from where tourists visit our country. In the past six years, we have had a rise of almost half a million tourists and we aim to achieve the 1.5 million mark this year.”
Local resorts present at the road show were Sun Siyam, Dunsit Thani, Lily Beach Resorts and Travellers Street. The Pune event was MMPRC’s second such road show after France and similar events would be held in China and Saudi Arabia soon. Maldives was also the official partner country for ‘Internationale Tourismus Borse 2016’ held in Berlin.
Maldives has organised various social media campaigns and other programmes to promote the ‘Visit Maldives 2016’ initiative. The prestigious World Travel Awards 2016 would be held at Maldives in December.
