Dalits in Navsari held a protest rally Monday, seeking action against a group of gau rakshaks for allegedly attacking a Dalit who was earlier arrested for “selling beef”.
They handed a memorandum to the district collector, seeking action against the accused.
A police complaint was filed against Gau Raksha Samiti activist Sajjan Bharwad and others Sunday night for attacking Girish Sosa (39).
Sosa said this was the second time Bharwad had targeted him. On June 27, the gau rakshaks thrashed him before taking him to a police station on finding beef on him, he said.
Sosa alleged that the beef was in a bag given to him by vegetable seller Kishor Morey for delivery. He claimed he did not check the contents of the bag and later Morey and others led by Bharwad thrashed him.
A complaint was filed against him under Animal Atrocities Act and he was arrested. He got bail on June 29.
He alleged that on July 22, Bharwad, Morey and others abused him on caste lines. Sosa said they also attacked him, but he fled. Later, he filed the complaint.
DSP V J Jadeja said, “We are probing the allegations.”
