J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Monday asked Pakistan to reciprocate the initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by visiting Lahore for resolution of issues between the two countries.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi started it by visiting Lahore and thereafter Rajnath Singh (Home Minister) also went there…Pakistan will sooner or later realise that war, violence or criticism of each other will not solve any issue between the two nations, but it will have to reciprocate the initiative taken by the Prime Minister,” she said here.

“Vajpayee took the bus to Lahore, but then Pakistan Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf orchestrated Kargil war. However, Musharraf had to later visit Agra on Vajpayee’s invitation, but thereafter came attack on Parliament,” she pointed out.

She recalled how later PM Vajpayee again extended a hand of friendship to Pakistan from the soil of Kashmir, adding that it brought good results in form of the Lahore declaration and Musharraf’s announcement that Pakistani soil will not be used for anti-India activities.

“Militancy decreased, talks began for reopening roads and dialogue process was initiated between the two countries. But unfortunately all these initiatives of political process, the healing touch stopped after the change of Mufti Sayeed government in J&K 2005,” she said.
