Arunachal Pradesh Former CM Nabam Tuki
Former Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki Thursday filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the imposition of President’s Rule in the state and sought restoration of his government.
The new petition was moved a day after Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi raised “technical” objections regarding the previous pleas by the former speaker and chief whip of the Congress legislature party on the ground that they challenged the Governor’s recommendation but not the proclamation of emergency. Tuki’s petition is likely to come up for hearing along with the other petitions on Monday, by when the Centre and the Governor also have to submit their responses showing good reasons for imposition of the President’s Rule in the state.
On Wednesday, a Constitution Bench led by Justice J S Khehar had issued notices to the Centre and the Governor, and also sought all the reports forwarded by the Governor to the Centre about the law and order situation in Arunachal Pradesh.
During the hearing, Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa’s counsel disclosed that “cow slaughter” had been cited as a sign of complete collapse of law and order in Arunachal Pradesh.
