Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the Central Information Commission’s annual convention on the Right to Information Act, which completed 10 years on Monday.
While Chief Information Commissioner Vijay Sharma could not be contacted, another Information Commissioner told The Indian Express that the CIC was informed by the PMO on Saturday that the PM will not be able to attend the October 16 function. The function will now be addressed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, sources said.
Every year since 2006, barring 2010, the PM or the President have addressed the convention’s inaugural or valedictory function on various issues related to Act.

Sources claimed even the dates for the function were shifted from October 12 to October 15 to suit the PM’s schedule. Interestingly, it’s not the Bihar Assembly polls that will be keep the PM busy on that day. BJP sources said that there were no Modi rallies on October 16.
The function will now be addressed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, sources said.
