Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated United States’ President-elect Donald Trump on Twitter, shorty after the results were announced Wednesday. “Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on being elected as the 45th US President,” Modi tweeted.

The Prime Minsiter appreciated the “friendship” Trump campaign “articulated towards India”, Modi said, “We look forward to working with you closely to take India-US bilateral ties to a new height.”

Trump was elected America’s 45th president Tuesday, an astonishing victory for a celebrity businessman and political novice who capitalized on voters’ economic anxieties, took advantage of racial tensions and overcame a string of sexual assault allegations on his way to the White House.
