PM Modi, BJP top brass pay tribute to Balraj Madhok

BJP chief Amit Shah, RSS joint general secretary Dr Krishna Gopal and Union minister Dr Harsh Vardhan also visited the family residence later.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first leaders who visited the Rajendra Nagar residence of Balraj Madhok, a former RSS pracharak and founding member of Bharatiya Jan Sangh, who died at AIIMS Monday morning.

Madhok was 96. He was cremated at Sant Nagar in the evening. He is survived by daughters Madhuri Madhok and Shakti Madhok, who performed his last rites.

Among BJP leaders who attended the cremation were party veteran L K Advani, Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu, Kalraj Mishra and Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay. Several BJP and RSS members were also present.

In a joint statement, RSS sanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and sarkaryavah Bhaiyyaji Joshi said Madhok’s “life was always dedicated to society and nation”.
