He, however, said that PDP has not officially communicated anything to the BJP about the formation of the government. “We are hopeful within next few days, PDP leadership will contact us. So far there has been no official communication from PDP,” he said.

The BJP state president said the statements from the PDP leadership are encouraging. “Very soon this stalemate will be over and J&K will have a PDP – BJP government,’’ he said.

BJP state in charge, Avanish Khanna told The Indian Express that government will be formed within some days. “PDP has to complete some formalities like formally electing Mehbooba Mufti as leader of House, then only other process could be initiated,” he said.

Despite the period of  mourning in the state ending today, the PDP leadership has maintained silence. Though the party’s chief spokesman Mehboob Baig on Wednesday said that very soon the government will be formed by the PDP and the BJP. Sources in the BJP said that back channel talks are going on with the PDP, and the party leadership is already in touch with two of its top most leaders. Sources said that BJP is also in touch with the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.

Though PDP parliament member from Srinagar Tariq Karra, who is also one of the founding members of the party, had conveyed to the party that they should rethink over its alliance with the BJP and try to form government with secular parties. However, majority of the PDP leaders are opinion that government will be formed with the BJP. Congress has already ruled out the possibility of forming an alliance with the PDP and termed the visit of Congress president Sonia Gandhi to Srinagar as a courtesy visit.
