Slamming those raising questions on the surgical strikes, the BJP Tuesday said that no one should “belittle” or “demoralise” the armed forces under the influence of Pakistan propaganda.

Taking on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his statement seeking proof of the surgical strikes, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asked if the AAP leader doubted the Indian Army.

“Arvind Kejriwalji, you are in the headlines in Pakistan media. Do you know that? It was most painful and unfortunate that the AAP leader was in Pakistani media headlines today as his remarks yesterday gave it a chance to question the Indian Army’s claim,” Prasad, who addressed media at the party headquarters, said.

In a televised speech Monday, Kejriwal had “saluted” Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ordering the surgical strike but also referred to some international media reports and UN group observations, both of which appear to question its authenticity, as he asked the Prime Minister to “unmask the Pakistani propaganda”.

“I want to ask Arvind Kejriwal whether he believes in the extraordinary valour of our Army or not in conducting the surgical strikes? If yes, then why are you (Arvind Kejriwal) getting influenced by the false propaganda of Pakistan? Why is he swayed by false propaganda asking proof to be given,” the minister said.

He also said that the AAP leader should not “belittle the great leadership, courage and sacrifice of armed forced under the garb of seeking proof”.

The Union Minister added: “Politics is different, but nothing should be said that demoralises our Army and makes it feel humiliated…India has been successful in isolating Pakistan politically and diplomatically, but Kejriwal is being guided by Pakistani media reports.”

Prasad said the government does not take seriously reports of “sponsored-media”, apparently referring to Pakistan Army’s decision to ferry reporters to the LoC to bolster its claim that no surgical strike by the Indian Army occurred there. India, he said, had briefed ambassadors of many countries and they had taken note of the Indian Army’s operation.

Attacking senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, he asked: “Is Chidambaram also joining bandwagon
wittingly/unwittingly of creating doubts about capacity of our forces? Under garb of seeking proof, don’t belittle great leadership, courage and sacrifice of armed forces.”

Chidambaram had said UPA government too had done PoK strikes, but it is up to the present government to give proof of the action.
