BJP CHIEF Amit Shah on Tuesday said the party winning recent bypolls in Assam and Madhya Pradesh and civic polls in Maharashtra and Gujarat showed people’s support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move and claimed some Opposition leaders were upset as their money, “looted” in scams, has turned into trash.

“While the Opposition is organising Bharat bandh and Akrosh Diwas… everywhere BJP has posted unprecedented victory… People across the nation is supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his decision of demonetisation… You all tell me… are you with demonetisation or with bua-bhatija,” Shah asked the gathering at party’s parivartan rally in Maharajganj on the Indo-Nepal border. He was referring to BSP chief Mayawati and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

“Rahul baba, Akhilesh babu, behan Mayawati… gareeb ke paas kala dhan nahi hai… aapke paas jo pada tha who sara ka saara doob gaya (Poor do not have black money… the black money you had has gone waste),” said the BJP president.

Stepping up attack on parties opposing demonetisation, Shah said: “SP, BSP, Congress, Mamata (Banerjee), (Arvind) Kejriwal are all angry with Narendra Modi today. Do you know why… what was amassed through loot has been turned into raddi (trash) by Modiji on November 8… Modiji has announced that those depositing large amounts in their accounts like Rs 5 crore or Rs 10 crore… the looted money will be used for welfare of the poor.”

Taking on Akhilesh, he said, “If farmers in UP are not getting benefit of schemes, the Akhilesh government is responsible… The PM has launched schemes for the welfare and empowerment of farmers. The ruling party of UP is full of land mafias and the government cannot work for the development of the state.”

Taking a dig at the previous UPA regime, Shah said: “For 10 years, those amassing trillions of rupees in their homes through scams are today angry with Modi… Till the morning of November 8, they all used to ask Modiji, what have you done against black money and today they are asking why have you done this… The country is with Modiji… it is in favour of demonetisation.” He also alleged that fake notes had made their way into India during UPA rule.

Hitting out at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his ‘khoon ki dalali’ remark on surgical strikes across the LoC, Shah said Modi government took action within 10 days of the Uri attack unlike the previous government. “But Congress shehzada (prince) says Modiji indulges in khoon ki dalali… Rahul baba, how will you know the value of Army jawans’ bravery… how will you know the value of their sacrifice… it is invaluable,” Shah said, claiming that no one can dare touch the boundaries of the country under the BJP government.

Speaking on triple talaq, Shah claimed that while SP, BSP and Congress are in support of the practice, the BJP-led Centre wants to restore rights of Muslim women.

“Shouldn’t Muslim women have rights? But SP, BSP and Congress believe that the country should follow triple talaq,” Shah claimed. He went on to appeal to the masses to make UP elections “a poll for women’s rights”, so that people cast their vote on this issue.

Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath, in his address, said members of terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen had misused Nepal border to enter India between 2011 and 2014.

“They used to enter UP through Kathmandu. The government used to send them to Jammu-Kashmir like guests. But from the day Narendra Modi took oath as PM, such activities have stopped automatically at the border,” he added.
