A 23-year-old man died and six others were injured in a clash over a firecracker in Delhigate police station area of Aligarh district Thursday.
The clash started after a Muslim family reportedly objected to a firecracker landing in their house. Other residents gathered and allegedly engaged in brick-batting and opened fire, leading to the death of 23-year-old Gauarv. Cross FIRs were lodged by the police, and nine persons detained.
Govind Agarwal, DIG, Aligarh Range, said the incident occurred when one Govind and his family were bursting crackers outside their house in Khatikana locality. A cracker landed in Jalal’s house in Sarai Mia locality, following which Jalal and his relatives reached Govind’s house and objected. Residents of Khatikana locality soon gathered in support of Govind and both groups clashed. Gauarv sustained a gunshot injury and was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed on Friday.
