The Chhitta Raavan issue seems nowhere near end. Even as Punjab Congress leaders led by Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu continued sitting in front of CM Parkash Singh Badal’s residence at Chandigarh for the third consecutive day, the Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday announced that he would be personally burning an effigy of Chhitta Raavan at Ludhiana on October 18.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Ludhiana on October 18 to preside over an industrialists award ceremony. Amarinder said that he personally would be burning Chhitta Raavan effigy against drugs and that too at the same venue where Congress workers were allegedly attacked by Akalis on the eve of Dussehra.
“Lets see who stops me. I want PM Modi to know what kind of goons he is supporting. Let him see the true colors of his alliance partner. Modi should also see the hooliganism of his alliance partner. I will burn an effigy of Chhitta Raavan at GLADA grounds on October 18. It is even better if PM will be here that day,” announced Amarinder Singh while presiding over Valmiki gathering at Ludhiana.
On Monday, a violent clash ensued between Congress and SAD workers after YAD workers led by Bhinder allegedly stormed into a venue where the Congress leaders were ‘guarding’ the ‘chhitta’ Raavan effigies created as a symbol to protest against drugs.
While six Congress men have been booked under attempt to murder, abduction and hurting religious sentiments sections, the police has booked SAD workers under ‘lighter’ sections for causing hurt, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint.
Asha Kumari, party’s Punjab affairs incharge who also accompanied Amarinder said that Congress is standing united with Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu till justice is not met. “Your MP since three days is sitting there in front of CM residence seeking justice. The entire party is with him and won’t budge from there till cops responsible for unfair enquiry and action are not suspended.”
Captain Amarinder Simgh also said that ‘protest will not be lifted till there is no action against Ludhiana commissioner and other police officials who accompanied and shielded Akalis that night.’ He later went to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to meet the District President Urban Gurpreet Gogi who was injured during the clash.
‘White color is okay but won’t allow cut outs as Raavan’s faces’
Ludhiana police commissioner JS Aulakh said to The Indian Express that, “police have issues with the cut outs which Congress had planned to use as face of Raavan effigies, not the white color.”
“We have no issues if they burn white effigies. But the cut outs of those faces will not be allowed. We will see according to the situation what action has to be taken if they again try to use those cut outs on October 18,” said Aulakh.
Congress had prepared cut outs of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and ministers including Bikram Singh Majithia, Tota Singh, Adesh Partap Singh Kairon etc and had planned to install them as ten faces of Raavan. They were later burnt separately after Akalis allegedly demolished white Raavan effigies.
