THE SUPREME Court Wednesday refused to grant protection from arrest to singer-composer Vishal Dadlani for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Jain monk Tarun Sagar and hurting religious sentiments of the community.
A bench of V Gopala Gowda and Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel asked Dadlani to move the high court first. “We are not going to protect you… Go to high court concerned and exhaust your other legal remedies first. You have an alternative and equally efficacious remedy of going there,” the bench told Dadlani’s counsel Karuna Nundy. Nundy said his client feared arrest, especially by Haryana Police, and cited the arrest of actor Kiku Sharda from Mumbai after he mimicked a religious leader. “There is a political vendetta against me. There are numerous FIRs being filed against me for 140 innocuous characters on Twitter,” Dadlani’s counsel urged the court on his behalf.
