Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi Thursday said no attempt was made to tutor witnesses in the Home Ministry’s probe into “missing documents” in Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
Mehrishi was speaking to mediapersons during a meeting on coastal security. Responding to a question on the tutoring of a witness by B K Prasad, the Home Ministry official heading the probe, he said: “ There was no such witness tutoring. Moreover, it was not required.”
He further said: “Let me make it clear that I have worked in the government for 34 years. I can state with my experience that we don’t have to resort to such witness tutoring.”
When pointed out the conversation between Prasad and another official had been recorded, he said only one side of the conversation was recorded. “How can we ascertain the other side’s response,” he said. ENS
