Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Tuesday wrote to Union Sports Minister (Independent Charge) Vijay Goel to look into the case of wrestler Narsingh Yadav, who was disqualified from the Rio Olympics on charges of doping.
While expressing shock at the outcome of the doping test against Yadav, Fadnavis said, “Looking at his past record and the way he was preparing for Rio Olympics, it seems impossible that this may have happened. He has been taking utmost care in his diet and was under proper training in accordance with the international norms.”
The chief minister expressed the apprehension being voiced across sections and political parties. “There is a widespread belief that he has been tricked or framed by some vested interests, but it is difficult to substantiate the same without proper investigation,” Fadnavis said.
Referring to Yadav as a successful wrestles, he said, “We were hoping he would win A medal for India in the Rio Olympcis.”
Suggesting that it was possible to conduct a test to ascertain whether Yadav had been framed, the chief minister urged the Union minister to ensure justice to the wrestles.
