Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the nation through his monthly radio broadcast programme on All India Radio, Mann Ki Baat. The Prime Minister started his speech with the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over Uri terror attacks in which 19 army soldiers lost their lives. PM said that those behind the attacks will not be spared.
PM Modi also directly addressed Kashmir and ask them to maintain peace and harmony for the development of the nation. Modi, also congratulated the Indian athletes for bringing glory to the nation at Rio Paralympics 2016.

Modi also spoke about the government’s efforts in sanitation and waste management, urging people to focus on building toilets and keeping the nation clean. As the nation celebrates Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Modi urged Indians to conduct cleaning drives and requested them to send in their pictures and videos to him, through his App.

*While talking about Uri incident, PM Narendra Modi said, “I pay my tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in Uri terror attack. The culprits will be punished for sure.” PM Modi also said that he has full confidence in Indian Army and are proud of them. Modi also said that a class 11 student Harshvardhan wrote to him talking about his will to serve the nation after Uri attack.
*Modi said that Kashmir’s population is now getting aware about anti-national elements. He also urged Kashmiris to shun violence to move ahead towards development. “Unity, harmony and peace are the ways to resolve problems and move towards development,” he said.
*PM talked about India sports athletes who performed at Rio Paralympics 2016. He praised Paralymics medal winner Deepa Malik. The Prime minister said that the medals have changed our way of looking at ‘Divyang’ people. “Jab Deepa Malik ne medal jeeta, toh kaha ki iss medal se maine viklaangta ko paraajit kar diya hai. Iss baat ko mai nahi bhool sakta,” he said.
*Prime Minister went on to talk about Swachh Bharat mission. “We began the swachh bharat mission two years ago on October 2. I can say this with confidence today that awareness for cleanliness has increased,” he said.
*PM said that states including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala are on their way to become open-defecation free. He also said that nearly 2.5 crore toilets have been constructed across the country
*PM urged people to be a part of the cleanliness campaign. “I urge youth to come up with relevant new startups about “Waste to Wealth” Model,” he said.
