BJP MLA from Sardhana and an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots case Sangeet Som surrendered before a local court Tuesday, following which he was released on bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000. He also had to give an undertaking that he will appear in court on the next date of hearing, January 23.

According to the prosecution, Som and six other accused are facing charges under various sections of the IPC for violating prohibitory orders, deterring public servants from discharging their duties and wrongful restraint.

It is alleged that the accused participated in Nadala Mador mahapanchayat meeting and incited violence through their speeches in August, 2013. Union Minister Sanjeev Baliyan, party MP Bhartendu Singh and BJP MLA Suresh Rana had surrendered before the court last December.
