TENSION prevailed in Shivpuri locality of poll-bound Muzaffarnagar after police arrested a 22-year-old youth for allegedly sodomising and then killing a minor boy of another community who was missing since Friday.
On Sunday, the accused, identified as one Ibrahim, was produced before the court which sent him to judicial custody. The police are conducting raids to trace Ibrahim’s associate who may have helped him, Station House Officer (SHO) of Khatauli police station, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said.
Police said protesting locals blocked roads leading to the locality and also pelted stones on vehicles parked on the roadside while demanding compensation for the boy’s parents who are daily wage labourers. Local MP and minister of state for agriculture Sanjeev Balyan, too, had reportedly rushed to the village to meet the protesters.
The SHO said the boy, aged 11, was playing near the railway tracks close to his house on Friday afternoon but did not return home in the evening. A local reportedly told the family he had last seen the boy with the accused. Ibrahim was caught and handed over to the police, he said.
On Saturday, when the police failed to trace the boy, locals gheraoed the Khatauli police station. The SHO said Ibrahim, when questioned again on Saturday, “confessed to having killed the boy after sodomising him”. Circle Officer, Khatauli, Jogendra Lal said the autopsy report “confirmed the boy was sodomised before being murdered”.
Security forces have been deployed in the area, said the DM.
