A medical officer in Pokhran was removed from his post and arrested for allegedly sending an “obscene” text relating to Diwali on a WhatsApp group.
Mohammad Yaqub, posted as a senior doctor at the Community Health Centre in Pokhran, was arrested under Section 151 of the CrPC after members of Hindu organisations along with the Youth Congress protested, accusing him of disturbing communal harmony.

Yaqub had allegedly shared the message on the WhatsApp group CHC Pokhran on Tuesday. “The message was worded obscenely and there were protests. When we got to know about it, we made the arrest,” Jaisalmer SP Gaurav Yadav told The Indian Express.
Before being arrested, Yaqub was removed from his post by the chief medical health officer.
As word about the message got around, activists of various Hindu organisations reached the CHC and protested, shouting slogans and demanding the doctor’s arrest. Later, local Youth Congress activists led by its president Balwant Singh Jodha joined the chorus and submitted a memorandum to SDM Ravindra Chaudhary, demanding action against Yaqub. Hindu organisations also issued a statement condemning the WhatsApp message.
