A 15-year-old Dalit boy in Navi Mumbai was beaten to death on Saturday night by the family of the 14-year-old girl he was in a relationship with.
Police have claimed that the five arrested accused allegedly murdered the youth as they did not approve of the relationship between the boy and girl as they belonged to different castes. The girl belongs to the Agri community, an OBC.
The incident took place late on Saturday night at the residence of the girl, which is two lanes behind the Nerul police station.

The accused have been identified as Sagar Naik (25), Rajendra Naik (50), Rajesh Naik (21), Durgesh Patil (22) and Ashish Thakur (23).
Police said the girl’s family disapproved of the relationship and had threatened the boy earlier.
“The girl’s brothers visited the boy’s house on Tuesday morning and threatened him on his terrace. Later that night, when the boy and his father visited the girl’s house to apologize, the boy was attacked and killed,” said a police officer attached with the Nerul police.
The Nerul police filed a case of murder, kidnapping and criminal intimidation under the Indian penal code, relevant sections of the atrocity act have also been evoked.
