Mumbai-Pune Expressway crash: 17 dead after bus crashes into two cars

According to preliminary information, the passengers in the Swift car had stopped by the side of the road in the first lane to fix a punctured tyre.

At least seventeen people were killed and thirty-five injured after a luxury bus travelling from Satara to Mumbai crashed into a Swift and an Innova car in Navi Mumbai, towards the Mumbai-end of the Express way. The incident happened this morning near Shedung, Raigad.

According to preliminary information, the passengers in the Swift car had stopped by the side of the road in the first lane to fix a punctured tyre. An Innova vehicle passing by stopped to help the family since it also had a toddler.

The parking light of the Swift car was not working when a luxury bus coming from Satara dashed the Innova and the Swift car, and fell 20 feet down into a ditch on the left side of the road.

“The accident happened at about 05.30 am on Sunday. Preliminary details show 10 males and 4 females along with a six month old baby to be dead. Almost 25 people have been injured and have been rushed to the MGM hospital in Kamothe, Panvel,” a traffic official said.

The victims identified till now include Shraddha Kale (20), Avinash Karande (39) and Vedika Yadav (02). The vehicles have been been identified as Swift-MH 04 CL1480, Innova – MH43 AR 6333 and Luxury Bus: MH 11 D 9698 of Nikhil Travels.
