BSP CHIEF Mayawati on Sunday said SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav had “orchestrated the rift” within the family to establish his son, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. She claimed Mulayam appointed his younger brother Shivpal Yadav as the state SP president so that he can be blamed for the party’s “imminent defeat” in the 2017 polls and also save his son’s “image”.
Mayawati said with the SP chief giving Akhilesh the “exclusive right” to distribute tickets, has tried to prove that he is “the number one in the family, making Shivpal Yadav and other ministers bali ka bakra (sacrificial goats)”.
Mayawati alleged the “family drama” in SP started only after the government “failed” to curb corruption and maintain law and order in the state. “It (rift) has only cost Shivpal and the people of UP… Meanwhile, a communal clash erupted in Bijnor but no one paid attention,” she claimed.
Referring to Quami Ekta Dal’s merger with the SP, Mayawati said the SP merged with Qaumi Ekta Dal of Ansari brothers because of Mulayam’s “love for his son” but he later insulted them and cancelled the merger to “help his son in image building”.
Mayawati said the re-induction of mining minister, Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, in the cabinet indicates there is “something fishy” because the “beleaguered CM will not be able to answer if asked when he (Prajapati) had already indulged in corruption in one department, would he not do so in another”. She added that the court has asked the CBI to probe the matter and the involvement of important people in the illegal mining business in UP. While the government is trying everything to stop the CBI inquiry, Mulayam is also doing “drama” by making ministers and Shivpal “sacrificial goats”, she claimed.
Shivpal, meanwhile, hit back at Mayawati, saying she should worry about “exodus from her party and its loss”.
