Claiming that Meena and Mina were different spellings of the same caste, National People’s Party leader and MLA Kirori Lal Meena asked Rajasthan government to communicate it to the Centre.

Speaking at a ‘Meena Aakrosh Rally’, he also demanded withdrawal of two circulars differentiating between the spellings.

The first circular on September 30, 2014, reportedly asked district collectors to not issue ‘Mina’ caste certificates to those spelling their name as ‘Meena’, while the second, dated December 23, 2014, directed authorities to maintain the difference between the two spellings and not change ‘Meena’ to ‘Mina’.

“Union tribal ministry has asked for a clarification, so the state government should immediately reply that both are same,” Meena said. He also called for a Meena Mahapanchayat on November 1 in support of the demand.
