
Twenty four persons have been confirmed dead, including two police personal in connection with the violence in Mathura during the encroachment drive at Jawahar Bagh. The police have also arrested 124 persons on charges of murder and rioting in the case.
Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh police, Javed Ahmed said that 22 persons have died including one woman during the operation, where 11 persons have died due burn injuries caused due cylinder explosions. The other 11 have died due to injuries caused by lathicharge during the police operation, the police added.

The violence occurred in Jawahar Bagh when the policemen were trying to remove encroachment upon a land in Mathura by activists, believed to be of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, on the directions of the Allahabad High Court.
Meanwhile, 23 police officials have been injured during the operation, with over dozen of them are critical due to the bullet injuries, the police said.

The police further said that stringent sections under National Security Act is likely to be invoked against the accused and that over 190 preventive detentions have made been in the case.
