THE BJP government in Madhya Pradesh will provide a subsidy for youngsters to visit the Cellular Jail in Port Blair, whose most famous inmate was Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement while inaugurating Veer Savarkar Setu, the longest flyover in the state, here on Wednesday. A section of the opposition Congress had demanded that the flyover be named after Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Youths from MP visit the country’s borders under a government scheme called ‘Maa Tujhe Pranam Yojana’ that aims at instilling patriotism among them. Visits to Port Blair will be covered under the scheme that was announced three years ago.
Four months ago, BJP MLA Usha Thakur had moved a resolution to declare Port Blair as ‘Rashtra Teertha’. The treasury benches had persuaded her to withdraw the resolution.
