Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met President Barack Obama for an hour-long meeting inside the Oval Office.

The Prime Minister thanked ‘close friend’ Obama for extending his support to India’s bid for NTCR and NSG membership.

PM Modi added that the two countries have been cooperating on a wide range of global issues.

“India and the US have been cooperating on global issues such as nuclear security, global warming and terrorism,” PM Modi said.

After jointly addressing the media, they broke for a working lunch in the Cabinet Room of the White House. Vice President Joe Biden will be joining them, too.

PM Modi, who is on a three-day visit, will also address the US Congress on Capitol Hill. On Monday, he began his visit by laying wreath at the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ at the Arlington National Cemetery.

After the ceremony, he also interacted with American astronaut Sunita Williams and Kalpana Chawla’s family, who tragically died after her space shuttle exploded.

While his earlier visits to the US were marked by large diaspora and business events, this will be more of a “State-to-State conversation”.
