Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Thursday warned the Congress-NCP against making unsubstantiated allegations against its tainted ministers.
The Chief Minister put up a spirited defence of Women and Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde in the Assembly.
The House witnessed uproarious scenes as the ruling BJP and the Congress-NCP engaged in heated arguments over alleged charges of corruption against Munde.
Congress MLA Vijay Waddedtiwar tried to raise an issue related to a company owned by Munde’s husband where she was a director. Although she had resigned from the company, the Congress, citing a newspaper report, wanted to discuss the matter in the House.
The issue sparked heated arguments with Fadnavis adopting an aggressive posture against the Opposition.
He said, “What is appalling is allegations are being made without providing proof and also in violation of the rules of business in the Assembly.”
While saying that the government won’t tolerate corruption, he said, “There cannot be any justification for making false allegations without any evidence.”
The Assembly saw repeated adjournments over the issue as members of the ruling BJP united and vehemently opposed the Congress-NCP.
The BJP members raised slogans demanding unconditional apology from Congress members.
When the House resumed, Munde dismissed all the allegations against her related to the Supra Media Service (LLP) firm owned by her husband Amit Palwe.
She said, “The company had no role in any road contracts nor ever did any monetary transaction… It appears there is a motive to tarnish my image.”
