The three accused arrested in the Salt Lake Sector V gangrape case on Wednesday were produced before the city court which sent them in judicial custody for 14 days. It was also found that the plea of Bidhannagar City Police to subject the accused — Suvendu Nag (25), Saurav Dey (20) and Arnab Bera (24) — to a test identification parade has been granted.
“We have not pressed for police custody but wanted TI parade, which is likely to be carried out on either June 4 or June 5. According to the norms, the accused have to be kept in judicial custody for at least 48 hours before the parade,” said a senior official of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate in Salt Lake.
He added that the fourth accused, Bappa, was still absconding and the police were conducting repeated raids to nab him.
The four accused had allegedly gangraped a 25-year-old woman, who is a bar singer at a restaurant in Barrackpore, at Salt Lake’s Sector-V in a moving vehicle late on Sunday night. Three of them were nabbed from a hideout at Haroa in North-24 Parganas district on Monday night following a massive raid.
The victim’s condition was said to be stable and improving. Police would try and get a secret statement of the victim in the case under IPC Section 164 on Thursday.
Forensic test results of some pieces of clothing belonging to the woman as well as those of the three arrested accused are awaited, sources said.
The ID cards found in the Tata Sumo car in which the woman was raped, suggested that Dey and Nag were drivers of pool cars that carried IT personnel deployed in Salt Lake, while Bera did odd jobs.
Police said that according to CCTV footage and eyewitnesses, the woman was allegedly in an inebriated condition when she arrived at an eatery in Salt Lake.
When the four accused arrived in a car, Bera was seen coming out and talking to her, following which she was seen entering the vehicle. “Around 3 am, she was pushed out of the car near Baishakhi More near Tank No 5 in Salt Lake. A cabbie helped her get to the Bidhannagar North police station,” a police official had said.
