A day after the Sangh Parivar brought out processions in Kerala to mark Janmashtami and the CPM countered it by launching a campaign against communalism, two RSS workers were on Thursday injured in an attack, allegedly carried out by CPM workers, in Kannur district.
Police said P Sujesh and K Santhosh are RSS leaders at Muzhakkunnu, a CPM stronghold near Iritty in Kannur district. They were assaulted by a gang at an under-construction building. The gang created a scare by hurling a bomb and then attacked the RSS men, said police, adding that the Sujesh’s condition is serious.
Police said the attack seemed to be a sequel to tension prevailing in the area since the processions on Wednesday. Three BJP workers and two CPM workers were injured in a skirmish over conduct of the processions. A local CPM leader had also been assaulted on Wednesday night.
