A Delhi court Tuesday sent Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, arrested over sedition charges, to 14-day judicial custody in Tihar jail.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate remanded Khalid and Bhattacharya to Tihar after the duration of their police custody ended.

The hearing took place in a makeshift courtroom inside the office of Delhi Police’s Special Cell, which is probing the ‘sedition case’, over an event held in JNU on February 9 against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, where “anti-national” slogans were allegedly raised. JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested on February 12 on sedition charges, is also in judicial custody in Tihar.
