Apprehending another attack on JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, the Third Battalion of Delhi Armed Police — which ferries undertrials lodged at Tihar Jail — has decided to move a plea in court that future hearings be conducted via video-conferencing from the jail.
Fearing the possibility of an attack outside the jail, court proceedings were held Thursday inside the jail complex.
Sources said Kanhaiya has been kept in an isolated cell inside jail number 3. “His cell has video-conferencing facility,” said the sources.

“After the murder of two undertrials in a moving prison van in August last year, both units had started coordinating. They have recently received intelligence inputs that some advocates are planning to attack Kanhaiya if he is taken to court,” added the sources.
In the last year, nearly 150 undertrial prisoners have moved applications in various city court requesting they be tried through video-conference.
