A 49-year-old man was allegedly assaulted to death and his body was hanged from a mango tree recently by his two sons in a village under Bhawnathpur police station area of Garwha district. Both the accused were arrested on Monday.
The accused told the police that their father was molesting his daughters-in-law in an inebriated condition. They got angry over the same and assaulted him. When he died, they decided to hang his body from a tree hoping that it would look like a case of suicide.
According to the police, the incident came to light on the morning of March 27 when residents of Amola Tola of Bukra village in Bhawnathpur spotted a body hanging from a tree. It was identified as that of Suraj Paswan, who lived close by.
Following investigations, the police zeroed-in on his two sons – Rinku Paswan (24) and his younger brother Chhotu Paswan (21) – who reportedly confessed of their involvement in the crime.
“On the intervening night of March 26 and 27, Rinku spotted his father molesting younger brother’s wife, who was sleeping. He chased him away. But, after some time, he again returned and began molesting the elder daughter-in-law. The brothers got infuriated and hit their father. It appears that he died after receiving a fatal blow,” said Officer-in-charge (Bhawnathpur) Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari. After that, they hanged their father’s body on a mango tree close to their house.
“The accused have told us that they did not plan to kill their father. But he died after sustaining injuries in vital organs. They then hanged the body from the tree thinking that either the police would think it to be a case of suicide, or suspect the involvement of outsiders. The victim had been in the habit of molesting the daughters-in-law, particularly when his sons would go outside the village for jobs. Both the accused were arrested on Monday,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Nagar Untari), Manish Kumar.
