The Tricolour fell off the flag post when Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti pulled the string to unfurl it at Bakshi Stadium on Monday. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

As the flag came off and Mehbooba held it, top police officers, including DGP K Rajendra Kumar, saluted it.

A security officer soon rushed to the stage and held the flag so that Mehbooba could salute it. But she continued holding it, and later left the dais to inspect the Independence Day parade without saluting the flag.

DGP Rajendra Kumar said action would be taken if anyone is found guilty. “We have ordered an inquiry,” he added.
There were suggestions that Mehbooba might have pulled the strings too hard.
