In a bid to draw the curtains on the row involving Additional Chief Secretary Bhagwan Sahai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Wednesday carried out a minor reshuffle in the bureaucracy. Sahai, previously holding the post of the Agriculture Secretary, was shifted as Additional Chief Secretary (Administration Reforms and Operations Management) with the General Administration Department. Principal Secretary Bijay Kumar will replace Sahai in the Agriculture department.
On August 21, Fadnavis had sent Sahai on forced leave after he faced the ire of the Mantralaya staffers over allegations that he had not allowed an official to leave home early to attend to his son who later committed suicide.
While Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, who is inquiring into allegations against Sahai, is yet to submit his report, Fadnavis Wednesday approved a proposal for accommodating Sahai in the GAD department, which he himself heads.
Sahai will take over from Shamlal Goyal, a 1985-batch IAS, who has now been shifted as the Principal Secretary and OSD (Appeals) of the Revenue department. Goyal will continue to hold additional portfolio of secretary for civil aviation with the GAD, officials clarified.
Chandrasekhar Oak of the 2002 batch has been posted as secretary to the State Election Commission.
