Independent legislator Engineer Rashid on Wednesday asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to include beef in the menu of J&K House in New Delhi and MLA hostels in Srinagar and Jammu.
Rashid also hailed the decision of Kerala government for again including beef in the menu of Kerala House in New Delhi.
Rashid had earlier hosted a beef party in the Srinagar MLA hostel and was attacked by eight BJP MLAs the next day inside the assembly. On October 19, engineer Rashid was again attacked with ink in New Delhi while he was coming out from press club after addressing a press conference for throwing a beef party.
Legislator Rashid said that the Kerala government has taken a realistic and unbiased stand as it has again included beef in the food menu in the Kerala House, Delhi. “JK government should respect the sentiments of Muslim community and introduce beef in food menu at J&K House Delhi and in MLA hostels at in Jammu & Srinagar,’’ he said while addressing a public gathering in his constituency, Langate.
For hosting the beef party, legislator Rashid had been at the receiving end from the BJP in the state, where the party is running a coalition government with the Peoples Democratic Party, however, attacks on engineer Rashid were condemned by all the leaders of mainstream parties including J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and former chief minister and NC working president Omar Abdullah. Though some PDP leaders said that the legislator should not have hosted the beef party at the MLA hostel.
Rashid also urged NC and PDP to revisit their policies in the larger interest of Kashmiris so that New Delhi stops exploiting people of Kashmir. “While Hindu radicals seem to have taken India from Kanyakumari to Delhi, BJP is shamelessly engaged in arguing that majority community must respect sentiments of minorities,’’ he said, adding that BJP forgets when it comes to Jammu & Kashmir where the majority community is being constantly deprived of its rights by Sang Parivar sponsored state administration and their fundamental rights, and religious aspirations are being bulldozed by the minority community.
