The I&B ministry will soon set up a committee to regulate funding for the screening of Indian films at international film festivals and competitions.
I&B Minister of State Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said the committee, comprising filmmakers among others, would look into the quantum of funds to be disbursed depending on the nature of the film festival. The proposal will soon be sent to the cabinet for approval. “A certain amount of money will be set aside for the purpose every year. The funding will take care of screening the films, travelling to the venue as well as to various countries, hiring halls, holding press briefings and get-togethers,” said Rathore.
According to sources, films that are sent to the Oscars could get Rs 1 crore, while those sent to Cannes or the Venice film festival would get up to Rs 50 lakh.
