A week after Hurriyat Conference named a police officer in south Kashmir for allegedly committing excesses against the people, its chairman Syed Ali Geelani named another officer for using “excessive force against youth” in Anantnag district.
Accusing the Station House Officer in Bijbehara, he said, “We have received information from Bijbehara that one police officer Arshad Khan is using excessive force and torture against the people and particularly the youth there.”
On Saturday, doctors at the sub-district hospital Bijbehara protested against Khan for stopping an ambulance carrying a bullet-hit youth to Srinagar for treatment. Last week, the locals of Semthan village of Anantnag had accused Khan of “uncontrolled” use of pellet guns.
Last Saturday, the Hurriyat Conference targeted sub-inspector Touseef Mir for “pellet shelling and injuring dozens of people” in Khanbal village of Anantnag. Following this, Mir’s father and brother visited Geelani’s home to apologise on his behalf but were turned back.
