Haryana: HC stays Lokayukta’s order against five ex-MLAs

THE PUNJAB and Haryana High Court Thursday stayed Haryana Lokayukta’s December 16 order that recommended registering of criminal cases against five former Congress MLAs, allegedly involved in a 2013 graft case, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The accused are former health minister Rao Narender Singh, former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Vinod Bhayana and MLAs Jarnail Singh, Naresh Selval and Ram Niwas Ghorela. While allegations against four of them pertain to demand of illegal gratification in cash for land use (CLU) cases, the allegation against Ram Niwas Ghorela is of demanding bribe to get a file cleared in the department of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan.

Petitioners have challenged the Lokayukta’s order and also a report submitted by then Haryana ADGP V Kamaraja on April 28, in which he, too, recommended registration of criminal case against the former MLAs under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
