Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari has referred to the Committee of Privileges the issue of an alleged breach of privilege by VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi.
A number of MPs had on August 7 complained to Ansari about Sadhvi Prachi and demanded an initiation of a breach of privilege proceeding against her for her “terrorists in Parliament” remarks following Yakub Memon’s hanging.
Sadhvi Prachi, they said, had violated the dignity of Parliament as well as the privilege of MPs with her remarks.
“It is a big misfortune that in the Indian Parliament, we have one-two terrorists sitting,” Prachi had reportedly said in Roorkee on August 6, referring to those who voiced disapproval over his hanging.
The committee is required to submit a report to Ansari after a detailed examination and investigation. Thereafter, the House will take a call on the report.
