The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday appointed Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi as Punjab convener in place of Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who was removed from the post after a video clip surfaced showing him allegedly taking bribes in exchange for poll tickets.
The political affairs committee of the party cleared Ghuggi’s name for the post, a party release said here, adding that he will take charge soon. The actor and comedian had joined the AAP in February this year.
He had started his career as an actor with small roles in Doordarshan serials and tele-films. He shot to fame after participating in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, comedy-based reality show.
He has also acted in films like Namastey London and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye and Singh Is King with Akshay Kumar.
Ghuggi was the second stand-up comedian to join the AAP after Bhagwant Mann.
